In July 2013 about 18 of us went to Shobrooke Park, Crediton to Spree 2013 - a weekend of outdoor fun and praising God with loads of other 8-15 year olds from across the Southwest. We took our tents and toothbrushes and spent time together bouncing on many inflatable activities including an assault course, bungee activities and a bizaare version of football! There was also plenty of opportunities for laser clay pigeon shooting, archery, football and volleyball, candle-making and, of course, water fights. There was also time for a 'Spree's got talent' which we all loved watching - there is some amazing musical and dance talent in the Southwest! We cannot not mention the fact that for all of us there was the opportunity to go further our walk with God - for the 8-11s Duggie Dug Dug led some challenging times - challenging both physically and spiritually!! For the 11-15s there was a chance to find out more about the Christian faith and what that means for the individual - for those just starting out on thier journey with God or those who have been walking with Him for quite a while.
Looking back, the sun was a big part of the weekend! It was hot, hot, hot!!! We had had lots of rain in previous years, so to get so much sun was most unusual, but great. The water fights were not optional but most definitely necessary! We were able to have some children go and enjoy Duggie Dug Dug's teaching and mad science and some young people learn about being part of the body of the church in their groups whilst worshipping and having lots of fun too.
We had one young leader come along as a steward. He worked hard doing everything from giving out bin bags as seats for us to manning the bouncy assault course to cleaning toilets and all in the blazing sunshine! He worked hard and the rest of us all appreciated the work that he and the rest of the stewards did. What is really exciting for the stewards is that they do get to serve but they also have their own teaching and worship times whilst the rest of us are having ours, so they get to learn and grow deeper with God along with the rest of us.
